For Lack of a Nail
“For the lack of a nail the shoe was lost.
For lack of a shoe the horse was lost.
For lack of a horse the rider was lost.
For lack of a rider the message was lost.
For lack of a message the battle was lost.
For lack of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the lack of a horseshoe nail.”
This old proverb reminds us of the importance of details. Of how when we miss the small things it ripples, slowly but surely, into the big things. Today, September 21st, is the International Peace Day. It is the perfect day to remind ourselves that world peace begins with us.
It begins with being in peace with ourselves, with who we are, and how we live. It is sustained by how we act with others, how we raise our kids, and how much love we give. Peace is a decision we all make constantly. If we choose peace in our daily lives, we help others choose peace as well, and sooner than later we will live in a world that chooses peace.
Let us re-write this old proverb:
As the nail was in place,
the horseshoe was in place,
as the horseshoe was in place, the rider arrived;
as the rider arrived, the message was delivered;
as the message was delivered, the battle was won;
as the battle was won, the Kingdom was saved.
All because the nail was in place.
Let us put the nail in place, let us live in peace. Let us choose peace!
